Welcome to the BABES blog (Bay Area Babies Explore San Francisco)!

Our group of moms and babies meets at a different location in San Francisco for a new adventure. We spend our time talking and chasing our little ones while discovering a new playground, park, coffee shop, etc.

Most of the babies were born in late 2003/early 2004. We're eager to expand our community and make new friends.

Magazines

Hi Everyone,

I hope you're all doing well and enjoying this sunny day.  If any of you happen to magazine readers and order subscriptions (I happen not to be but probably will be now :)), let me know.  Lucas' school has a magazine drive fundraiser (no pressure) from September 3-14.  Just let me know if you're interested in this once in a lifetime offer ;).

Thanks!
Cathy

1st Day of 1st Grade

Hi!  Today was Simona's first day of First Grade.  Kinda trippy.  I just wanted to let you know that it wasn't any easier today than it was last year.  I was all teary and she was super nervous too.  It all happened kinda fast, but I am sure as soon as the day got under way she was fine.  I am fine too.  Happy to be back in the swing of things, I think.  Now just have to get over the hurdle with Jonah's first day next week.  That will be a doozie I am sure!  Wish me luck!

I hope everyone is having a great 2nd week.

Julie

Books-A-Million

I got the following info from a blog I read regularly. I just ordered a bunch of really cheap books and sticker books for Christmas and the like. My order amount qualified for free shipping, but you can also try the code below for free shipping with no minimum order. Note that you will see an "online" price and a "club" price; I found the online, nonmember price to be only slightly higher (such as $1.97 instead of $1.77). The bargain section is quite huge, isn't super user-friendly and takes a little wading through, but if you have time, you'll find some good stuff. Happy shopping!

If there are any classic children's titles you'd like to add to your family's book collection, you can do so very inexpensively right now through Books-A-Million.

They have dozens of titles clearanced by 70-80%. Go here to check them out. Plus, if you use coupon code BKLVFREE when you check out, you should be able to get free shipping with no minimum.

The Update

So here’s the update.  Just a wee bit of background first. Lucas was super on edge about going to kindergarten.  He was dreading it so much that he did not want to get his cast removed (we had on for therapeutic purposes and purposely got it off right before school started).  Every time we’d talk about kindergarten he’d start to cry.

So I’m delighted to report that the half-day went by really fast for both of us.  I went to go pick Lucas up and he was beaming with joy (the complete opposite of how looked when I left him).  He complained a bit that they talked about rules A LOT and that he yawned A LOT.  But later he talked about some things they did that were icebreaker games for kids.  They sounded very fun and clever.  He said, “My teacher smiles a lot” and she thinks we're the best kindergarten class she’s ever had.

Tonight we did our nightly reading and read The Night Before Kindergarten again (read it last night too).  It mentioned being afraid and he said emphatically, “I was really afraid.”  Now he’s excited about tomorrow.  Tomorrow I’m expecting that he might say he’s afraid again.  But overall, it was a very successful and tiring day.  Tomorrow is the first full day.  Another page turns.

Good luck to all of you.

It's Here...

... the first day of kindergarten

Hi Everyone,

I just dropped off a very teary-eyed boy at this first day of kindergarten.  I kept it together but just barely.  As they suggested I did not linger and let him fly on his own.   It's a half day on the first day.  I don't know if these next three hours can go fast enough :).

Just had to share.  Hope all are well.

Playground this afternoon

It is cold and yucky here, but we're heading to the playground anyway. We'll be at JP Murphy (9th btw Ortega and Pacheco) from 1:45 on. We hope to see some friends there.
