Entry: a few more ?s: yarn and Nutcracker Thursday, September 24, 2009

Thanks for your responses to my other questions. I will plan a night for all of us moms to get together to bid Arlene adieu.

Until, then 1) if you knit, where do you buy your yarn and 2) do you know of any Nutcracker productions other than the SF Ballet?

Thanks!

Imagiknit at the Castro to buy Yarn, they are super helpful and will ball it or show you how to ball it there for free. My knitting lady tells me not to buy online as you cannot feel the wool, and that's important when you are working with it as you are feeling it for the term of the project.

We did San Mateo last year, it was more affordable, they have a tea party afterwards, and photo's with all the characters. They had a choir before you went in and a break, it worked out beautifully.

The name of the school is City Ballet. Indira loves it, it's okay if the kids wiggle around a bit and ask questions, and I think the best part is that they see little children up to "grown up" kids performing and that connects them to the show on a level that an all adult show sometimes doesn't. This year we might even break the mother/daughter tradition and take the boys along...maybe!! Anyway, here is the link, we'd love to join a group if anyone is interested

My mother buys almost all of her yarn online. Her two favorites are elann.com and smileysyarns.com. Smiley's has a minimum order of $50, and their prices are quite low, so it can sometimes be tough to get to $50. Our other source for yarn is at the annual Stitches Knitting Convention which is at the end of February in Santa Clara.

Sonali, is it the City Ballet? If so, I found the link! Thanks!

And, M, thanks for the heads-up about Urban Fauna. I'm looking for alpaca yarn. I'll check them out.

Imagiknit and online mostly. Imagiknit has a great selection. There is also a little shop on 16th at Irving called Urban Fauna Studio. What are you looking for?

I know I've seen ads for other Nutcrackers but can't remember who.
